  1. Mathilda
    Roald Dahl

This was my latest Roald Dahl find, and it was my favorite! It rocked! Before I have read the BFG, and it was amazing, but not as much as Mathilda. Fans of BFG, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or any other Roald Dahl novel, should definitely read Mathilda!

  2. Beauty
    Robin McKinley

Beauty was an intriguing retelling of one of my favorite classic musicals, Beauty and the Beast. It was a great book, very heartwarming. I liked that in some parts, there were just enough details, but in the rest, there were too many or less. It was still an amazing book.

I love Gail Carson Levine's works! He writes with just enough detail so I can create an intricate picture in my mind. His books are never dull, and I liked the creatures and places and all that good stuff that he invented! Fantasy fans should check this novel out right away!

I love the way Sydney Taylor captures the details just right of the life of this unique family. I'm normally all over fantasies, but this amazing novel is just as good! This family gets excited about the tiniest things, and even some bad things! A great read for book lovers!

This book is about a girl who is tired of being her boring self and decides spice up her life, but by doing this, it leads to many bad situations. This book was good. It was a bit painful at times, but also really funny at other parts.

  7. Ella of All of a Kind Family
    Sydney Taylor

And Ella is back again! Ella is probably my favorite character, because we are so alike. All Ella wants is to be a singer when she grows up, and get married to her boyfriend, Jules. But when she finally makes it into a vaudeville act, she realizes she can only have one or the other, but which one? The choice is hers, and only hers. Fans of All of a Kind Family should try this!

  8. The Boy in Striped PJ's
    by John Boyne

When i first picked up this book i thought it was for like 10 year olds and it starts out that way, but throughout the book the plot thickens. The interesting part of the book is that the whole time you are putting together the pieces to figure out what he is talking about. It was very interesting but i did not like it because i like fun stories and it is not fun. I rate this book 3 stars because although it was not a very good book to me, it was written really coolly.

    Lisi Harrison

This is the 7th book in the series and it is pretty good. The 5th book was my favorite. All girls should read the clique books, but note this is not real it is FICTION and i put that in caps b/c i've heard that at a couple of the elementary schools some girls have decided that they were the Pretty committee in their school. It is not a good thing to be the pretty committee. read them in order. The Clique books take place over the entire 7th grade year. I rate this book 2 stars because it was not very good compared to some of the others in the series but i still love the series and all girls should read them!!!

the boy book is good but not as good as the boyfriend list. it is the sequel to the boyfriend list. it deals with her junior year and everything starts to kind of fall into place. I would read it if you enjoyed the boyfriend list but i only give it two stars cause nothing really happens.

Read it if you have read the others or you are just a girl looking for a quick fun read. (I read it in one day which is saying a lot since i dont read much!)

  16. Mariel of Redwall
    Written by Brian Jacques

This book was pretty good, though I thought thst Gabool, the enemy, was gonna be killed by Mariel, the protagnist. The part about the three hares charging into 5 scores of rats was quite disturbing, for I've never read a bookw in which people do suicidal stuff. In the end of this book, everybody got what they wanted. I think that the sequel to this book is called The Bellmaker.

  17. Down With Love (movie)

This is one of the funniest but yet cheesiest movies I have ever seen. It is a complicated plot, that takes place in the 60's, about a farm girl that writes a book about how women should not fall in love. She comes to New York city and publicly humiliates Catcher Block, a famous and handsome reporter/bachelor. I definitly recommend this movie if you are in the mood for something funny.

This is the sequel to a wonderful novel, Cheaper by the Dozen. For once, I have to say, the sequel was better than the original! It had plenty of detail, yet not too much that you would get bored. I always wanted to know what happened next, never could put it down even for meals, plus it had more comedy than the first. I adored it!

  20. Fairest by Gail Carson Levine

So I read this book b/c Ella Enchanted was one of my favorite books, like, five years ago. And the book jacket of this says it's set in the same land. So I was like 'cool!' I started reading and realized I'd forgotten half of what happened in Ella Enchanted. So it didn't really matter that I had previous knowledge, b/c I'd forgotten it all. Anyway, I thought this book was pretty cool, but definitely way too young for me. I guess I knew that when I picked it up, but I still read it for, I dunno, 'old times sake.' Ella Enchanted is on my brother's fifth grade reading list, and Levine pretty much writes at that level. The characters were fairly well-developed, and the plot was interesting, though it had a crapload of turns. It reminded me of the second Pirates of hte Carribean movie, onyl b/c it felt like this had about 14,000 different plots all smushed together. The characters were so vain, though... and that put me off a bit.
Bottom line, I love Levine's stories, they're very imaginative and fun to reasd... but I would have liked this book a lot more if I was ten again.

    Stars...
two if you're in high school, five if you're in grade school... so, what's that averaged, three and a half? yeah. three and a half.

    alright, still by lily allen

genre: pop... but good pop! its summer music.
    discography: [my favorites are bold...]
1-smile. 2-knock 'em out. 3-ldn. 4-everything's just wonderful. 5-not big. 6- friday night. 7-shame for you. 8-littles things. 9-take what you take. 10-friend of mine. 11-alfie. 12-nan, you're a window shopper. 13-smile (version revisited) [mark ronson remix]. 14- blank expression.

okay. so lily allen is this twenty-year-old british girl w/ a fairly famous comedian father. she's pretty big in the news right now b/c of her drinking and smoking and dissing of other british celebrities. (she thinks kate moss only makes clothes for anorexics and she hateshateshates amy winehouse.) she got her start by making a myspace page and putting up some of her songs, and also her semi-famous mixtapes (called 'my first mixtape' and 'my second mixtape'). in the mixtapes, she mixes some of her work w/ that of more famous artists, such as dizzee rascal, ludacris, kaiser cheifs, etc... also on her myspace, she posts blogs--real blogs-- about how she feels about all the stuff in her life. her lyrics are just as real as her blogs. her songs are about everything from the city of london (ldn) to breakups (smile, littlest things, not big) to how dumb being insecure about weight is (everything is alright) to (a personal favorite) what to do when guys hit on you in bars (knock 'em out).

note: watch out for language. seriously.

favourite worst nightmare by arctic monkeys

genre: alt-rock? awesome? the best bass riffs ever? i hate having to classify it...
discography: [my favourites are in bold.] 1-brianstorm. 2-teddy picker. 3-d is for dangerous. 4-balaclava. 5-fluorescent adolescent. 6-only ones who know. 7-do me a favour. 8-this house is a circus. 9-if you were there beware. 10-the bad thing. 11-old yellow bricks 12-505

so im really into british stuff this summer... what can i say about the arctic monkeys... they sound upbeat and catchy, but some of their lyrics arent so upbeat. theyve got some of the catchiest bass riffs ive ever heard. the lead singer, alex turner, has the pretties voice ive ever heard, as well as a cute little british accent. and hes really cute too. just sayin'.
the arctic monkeys formed in 2003, and are every bit as amazing now as they were then. some artists start making money and their music goes downhill. if anything, these guys have gotten better. their debut album, whatever people say i am, that's what i'm not was maazing too, but this album seems to me like it's more... refined? mature? i dont know what word to use; i just think this one's better. go check it out. its hard not to love these guys. ive showed them to friends, and everyone from my mom to my electronica-crazed friend to the guy thats into heavy-metal likes them.

note: itunes says this isn't explicit; it is. watch out. ive yet to find a clean version. this is not something you want to play for your little sister, no matter how mangled and unrecognizable the curse words sound in alex turners adorable british accent.

    RIOT! by paramore.

genre: punk-pop-alt-rock. or, the stuff you were way into in eighth grade when you dressed straight out of hot topic and wore too much eye-makeup.
discography: [my favorites are bold.] 1- for a pessimist, im pretty optimistic. 2- that's what you get. 3- hallelujah. 4- misery business. 5- when it rains. 6- let the flame begin. 7- miracle. 8- crushcrushcrush.
9- we are broken. 10- fences. 11- born for this. 12- misery business (acoustic version).

theyre not british! paramore actually began in the us! tennessee, to be exact. like i said in the genre, this is hte kind of stuff that faux-punk kids listen to in middle school. i bought the album b/c i loved their album, all we know is falling, two years ago, and i wanted to see if theyre progressed as band. and they have preogressed a little. not too much, in my opinion, but a little. similar to their previous album, the songs in RIOT! all sound the same to me. thats not to say they arent catchy--theyre very catchy!-- but they aren't as original as they could be.
my favorite thing about this band would be the vocals. hayley williams is paramores singer, and shes honestly the best punk-ish vocalist ive heard. and my faux-punk friends tell me shes even more amazing live.
if youre goign ot listen to any of their songs, check out misery business in acoustic. the feeling in the vocals is amazing. and even though they're faux-punk and 'so eighth grade'-- im not embarrassed to say that i kind of like them. kind of.

stars: three? four? can i give them three and a half?

old world underground, where are you now? by metric.

genre: kinda indie, kinda poppy, kinda electronica... what can i say?--the lyrics are sung by a new yorker, and her accent is apparent. is that a good enough explanation?
    discography: [favorites=bold.]
    1- iou. 2- hustle rose. 3- succexy. 4-combat baby. 5- calculation theme. 6-wet blanket. 7- on a slow night. 8- the list. 9- dead disco. 10-love is a place.

so i am of hte opinion that any album that begins the first song w/ a sound that vaguely reminds me of a can opening followed by "old world underground, where are you now? subtract my age from the mileage on my speeding heart, credit cards. accelerate, accumulate. looked for you downtown, would up in a movie w/ no story. now its late, and you are nowhere to be found." has got to be amazing. and this album is pretty amazing. lead singer, emily haines (also of broken social scene as well as emily haines and the soft skeleton) sings w/ an apparent new yorker's accent, and the songs she sings are full of flair. metric is unlike anyone else, i can say that truthfully. their beats are likeable. theyr lyrics are poetic and creative and memorable and easy to relate to.

    trust me, youll like them.

note: these songs are not all daisies and butterflies. it's not that the lyrics are super-explicit... but they do talk about not-so-great lifestyles in some songs.

song to definitely check out: wet blanket.

stars: four and a half! and dont you tell me i cant do half stars! half stars are completely neccessary here!

the last days by scott westerfeld.

so i've always been a secret fan of vampire and cannibal books. mainly vampires, but still. cannibals are cool too. and music is pretty much crucial to me. so i see this book about five kids in a band and cannibals/vampires and hte world ending due to a sanitation crisis. and it looks gross, but also pretty cool so i get it. just b/c i like music and cannibals. and hte back says something about vampires, too. so it looks like a great big party to me. being incredibly smart, i missed hte bright blue letters on the front that say this book is a sequel. i get part way through, and, unsure of whether im dealing w/ vampires or cannibals. turns out, the vampire talk was about the prequel, peeps. but i was still confused, b/c there were characters called peeps in 'the last days.'
so pretty much... i was confused throughout the whole book. halfwayway though, i decided i probably ought to read hte prequel then this one again. about tweny pages part that point, i was so sick of hte book i didnt even want to finsish it, much less read the prequel. but i did finish it. and as soon as i was done, i went and read a realistic book, b/c i couldnt handle anymore fantasy.

i didnt like this book, and its probably my fault for not reading hte prequel. but i just didnt like it. thats all i have to say.

stars: can i go negative? can i at least not give any? oh, alright. ill give it half a star... but thats as high as im gonna go.

Though this book was good, it kind of dragged along as the story went by. Sometimes, it even skips between times. My favorite part of the book was when the characters found the badger's treasure; pearls from the sea, gold, loot, shiny swords, and others. This book focuses on a mountain named after the book, Salamandastron.

A sequel to Mariel of Reedwall, this time it focuses on Mariel's father, Joseph the Bellmaker. For once, the setting is not in Mossflower, but in Southsward. The evil guy's army didn'y seem so large when they were ambushed by squirrels, moles, and mice. What surprised me was that a vermin named Blaggut was very kindhearted.

  29. Fahrenheit 451
    Ray Bradbury

Fahrenheit 451 is a book about a futuristic time, in which a man, Guy Montag, lives. Montag is a firefighter in a different sense than we use the word. Instead of putting out fires, Montag has to start fires and burn all the books in his community. A decision made around 50 years before him was that books make people unhappy, and there for shouldn't exsist. After 10 years of burning books, Montag finally realizes that it is wrong, and that it is up to him to do something about it.
I thought this books was good but not great. It was pretty boring until the very end.

This book is the first one that mentions the name of the sea that Salamandastron guards: the Western Sea. Green Isle didn't seem very big, as it only takes a day to get to the other side. Written by Brian Jacques

The book doesn't really get to the outcast until in the middle of the it. I see that vermin are vermin, no matter what, except for Blaggut, another character in a different Redwall book. i liked this book, for the badger lord didn't get killed by his mortal enemy, like some other books. i rate this book pretty high. My favorite part was when the outcast saved his life for his "mother"
but sacraficed something foe the price of it.

discography: [my favorites are in bold.] 1-the new year. 2-lightness. 3-title and registration. 4-expo ‘86. 5-the sound of settling. 6-tiny vessels. 7-transatlanticism. 8-passenger seat. 9-death of an interior decorator. 10-we looked like giants. 11-a lack of color.

so death cab got really big recently. all the scene kids and emo kids and preps and normal people were listening to them. i went to the their concert back in november w/ some friends, and it was the most diverse concert i’d ever been to. there were preppy kids and emo kids and scene kids and nerd and my parents. The group I went w/ included me, my German writing teacher, am emo muslim kid, a polish kid and some other people I go to school w/. and my parents were there, but not w/ us. that’s how diverse death cab’s crowd is.
death cab began in washington 1997, and their debut LP, something about airplanes, was released in ’98. this album, transatlanticism, thought by many to be their best was released in october of 2003. also released: we have the facts and we’re voting yes (2000), forbidden love ep (fall 2000), the photo album (2001), the john byrd ep (2005), plans (august 2005).

note: if you think you recognize their sound from somewhere else, go listen through ‘the postal service’ and try to place why they remind you of each other. hint? ben gibbard is the lead singer of both groups.

songs to get if you have no soul and don’t just get the whole album: title and registration, we looked like giants, the sound of settling, transatlanticism.

also, go check out the music video for ‘title and registration.’ it’s phenomenal.

  118. R.V.

R.V. is a good movie, but it would be the worst movie ever if it weren't for Robin Williams. He did a spectacular job of acting. The main family, the Munro's, are forced on to an R.V. by their dad. This movie is funny because The Munro's aren't friendly, they don't like nature, and the family doesn't get along well. I think this movie is better than the reviews it got. I reccomend it to everyone.

This movie is based on the book Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. This movie is so sad but is still a great movie. Personally, I think the book is much better than the movie. The movie is also a little different than the book so I reccomend reading the book before seeing the movie. Oh yeah, before you watch the movie you might want to get some tissues.

  120. The Secret of the Rose by Sarah L. Thomson is a pretty easy read. It was kind of confusing, though, since it talked about specific historical events that took place in the late 1500s without giving any background information on them. This made the book kind of hard to follow at points. Overall, this was a good book, but the ending left something to be desired. I would give it 3/5 stars.

  121. I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You by Ally Carter is a very good novel. It combines life at "spy school" with normal teenage life. It was a pretty quick read and thoroughly enjoyable if you need a quick pick-me-up. The ending is not resolute; however, the loose ends will hopefully be tied in its upcoming sequel. I'd give it 4/5 stars.

  122. An Abundance of Katherines by John Green was a pretty decent book. However, it had a lot of footnotes on different languages and math equations used in the book (and yes, this is a fiction book.) Also, I would not recommend this book to anyone who is offended by cussing. Overall, I would give this book 3/5 stars.

  123. The Murder of Bindy MacKenzie by Jaclyn Moriarty is a very entertaining novel. And, contrary to its title, it is not primarily a mystery story. This book has an easy to follow plot line; however, it tends to drag on more than necessary. There is a surprise twist in the end, which I will not give away, but basically the book keeps going after you think that it would be over. I would give it 4/5 stars.

  124. Ophelia, by Lisa Klein, was a really good book. The writing makes it really easy to connect with the main character. Even though it deals with the story of Hamlet, a reader does not need to know Shakespeare's work to understand this. The end of this novel is kind of unexpected, but ends very pleasantly anyways. I would give it 4/5 stars.

  125. The Black Sheep, by Yvonne Collins and Sandy Rideout, is a pretty good book. It kind of shows how celebrities feel with all of the cameras in their faces. However, that is not anywhere near the main plot line. This book is a quick and funny read. I would recommend it to everyone, but especially those interested in the environment or animal safety. Overall, I would give this book 4/5 stars.

  126. The Taker by J.M. Steele is suprisingly a REALLY good book. It takes you inside the world of the SATs and the stresses that can come with them. However, this is not a boring, "academic" book. It also deals with teenage life in general and is a book that I would recommend to anyone. I would give it 5/5 stars!

  127. Koyal Dark, Mango Sweet by Kashmira Sheth is a very good book. It shows a young woman who lives in India and her struggles against the traditional arranged marriages and other customs of her country. 128. Wicked by Gregory Maguire is a pretty decent book. It shows the Wicked Witch of the West (from the Wizard of Oz) before the story that WE all know takes place. It kinda dragged on, however. But, overall, this was a pretty good read. It is not, however, an extremely quick one. I would give it 4/5 stars.

  129. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End was an interesting movie. It is the 3rd and possibly final installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. It was a pretty good movie; however, there were some very odd scenes and some of the characters were stranger than usual. Also, the end of the movie definitely leaves you wanting more! (Which is not really a good thing if you're not going to GET any more...) Overall, I would give this 3/5 stars. It was good, but I have to say that the 1st was the best of the three.

  130. Win a Date With Tad Hamilton is a pretty good movie. This one definitely falls into the "chick-flick" category- it's perfect for spending the night in with friends. It's funny and cute and without a major moral but great if you're up for some light fun. I would give this movie a 4/5.

  131. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is not a very good movie, in my opinion. It actually has a plot line, which puts it ahead of many of the other comedies out there, but it's not a very good one. It's one of those movies where you notice more and more inappropriate things in it every time you see it. If you're in to strict comedy, you might enjoy this film, but as for everyone else, this is a movie you might want to stay clear of.

  132. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark was not a fabulous movie, in my opinion. Yes, I know that it's considered to be kind of a classic, but I found it pretty boring. It has good stunts and effects for its time (it was made in 1981), but don't watch it expecting the same thrills you get from watching, say, Mission Impossible. I did not particularly care for this movie, but many people would, so I would watch it if you genuinely think it would be interesting OR if you simply want to earn some brownie points with your parents by watching one of THEIR favorites.

  133. Dreamgirls was not a very good movie. It did not live up to all the hype about it at ALL. It's plot line was really hard to follow and I never could figure out who the main character was. 134. Nancy Drew was a cute movie. It was not really anything like the books, but it was a good family film. This is a good movie for anyone- there's a little something for everyone in it (I don't want to give too much away, but yes, even an explosion for the guys.) I would give this 4/5 stars.

  135. Breakfast at Tiffany's was a pretty good movie. It is considered to be a classic movie, and I can see why. Although it was made in 1961, people are still watching this film. Even if the plot line is kind of predictable, it's still a fun movie to watch, just like any other movie with Audrey Hepburn in it. I would give this 4/5 stars.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Anna and the King was a good movie. It had an interesting plot line and showed a strong female character as the lead. Although it's ending was sad, it wasn't leave-you-in-tears sad, which can ruin a movie. I'd give this movie 4/5 stars.

  137. A Cinderella Story was a cute movie. In case you can't tell from the title, it's more of a chick-flick. This is a great movie to watch when you're just hanging out or with your friends. I'd give it 4/5 stars.

  138. Pride and Prejudice is a really good movie. It manages to stick pretty well to the book, a feat that is almost unheard of nowadays. It has really good acting and is a movie that you could watch many times. And while I'm at it, I'll go ahead and recommend the book, too. The book is even better than the movie is and really shows the transformation of the characters so that they can redeem themselves. I would give the movie 4/5 stars.

I persnoally do not reccomend this book to anyone. The little culture you learned in this book was intresting but the book as a whole was not. It took a lot of will power to make myself finish this book. Although someone I know felt this was a good book I can say truthfully I disagree.

This book is about all of the wrong "facs" and patriotic, errors in many American textbooks. For instance, id you know 90% of highschool history classes never evn mention Vietnam?, or that Hellen Keller was a communist?

The Titans Curse is the third book in a series. In my opinion the first book was the best but this book definitly wasn't bad. The first book in the series is named the lightning Thief and I suggest starting with this book before reading this book. Happy Reading.

Mystery of Blackbeard's COve was an okay book. I didn't think it was the best book because aside from a few exciting parts the book was rather boring and didn't strike me as a very good book but others may feel differently if they don't like much action. Magic Steps is a great book and a lot of people would like it. Although the book would make a lot more sense if you read the series the magic Circle first. Even though I didn't read the Magic Circl books first I still thought it was a great book.

I think that it is a very good book. I liked this book better than book 1&2 of the Harry Potter series. In this one you also find out some more about Harry's Dad and Mom's death and you meet cool new characters.
